Withdrawing from Classes

There are many things to consider if you plan to withdraw from the University.

Withdrawing with extenuating circumstances

There are four main reasons that are considered “extenuating circumstances.”

View the Four Reasons for Extenuating Circumstances
  • Personal/Family Emergency: Death in the family to include significant other, child, sibling, parent, grandparent(s) and/or request to care for a seriously ill child or other immediate family member.
  • Personal Hardship: Homelessness, divorce, fire and/or flooding of residence.
  • Medical/Mental Health Emergency: Situations due to medical and/or psychological circumstances.
  • Military Orders: For students who are ordered to report for military duty (active duty, training etc.).

If you are considering a full or partial withdrawal from UNC Charlotte because of any of these circumstances, please review this withdrawal website for more information about your next steps.

Registration
  • Once withdrawn from all classes, you will not be able to register for another class in the current term.
  • Withdrawing may affect your ability to register for future terms if you will owe a balance for return of financial aid. Refer to the “Financial Aid” section for additional information.

IMPORTANT NOTE – You are academically and financially responsible for the courses you enrolled in and are relieved of these responsibilities only by formally terminating enrollment.
